About Tbilisi

Tbilisi is the capital of Georgia, spreading across the Kura River and framed by mountains.

The city’s layout includes 10 administrative districts, with Old Tbilisi as a historic core marked by narrow streets and distinctive wooden balconies.

Tbilisi’s skyline stands out for its close proximity of Orthodox churches, Armenian churches, a synagogue, and a mosque. Its main international gateway, Tbilisi International Airport, connects the city to over 4 million travelers annually. The local currency is the Georgian lari (GEL), used for everyday expenses including transport and food.

Old Tbilisi District

Designated a historic district since 2007, Old Tbilisi features 19th-century wooden houses with open balconies and the sulfur bathhouses of Abanotubani.

Tbilisi International Airport

Located 17 km southeast of the city center, TBS served over 4 million passengers in 2023 and is the main gateway for visitors.

Tbilisoba Festival

Held annually in early October, this city festival includes concerts and wine events in the historic center and Rike Park.
